Oso the dog – a pet portrait under a table

On our recent trip to Maui we spent some time with our friends Julie and Drew. One day we were at their house for the afternoon hanging out and I took some time to snap a few pictures of their dog Oso. He is an awesomely relaxed dog who just wants to hang around all day in the sun. Which surprises me since he is a super shaggy black dog that I thought would catch on fire living on Maui. But, he seems to love it. I snuck down to the end of the table outside and caught this one of him, looking at me like I’m some kind of weirdo who likes taking pet portraits. Side note that’s totally unrelated, taking pet portraits sounds like a semi-lucrative side job.

My beautiful wife on a beautiful beach – Maui

My wife Cassidy is my favorite photographic subject. She says she hates it, but I know she secretly totally loves it. She especially loves it when I post photos of her to the internet. On our recent trip to Maui we went for a walk one afternoon on the beach and I had my camera with me, so of course I was snapping pictures. Cassidy got ahead of me so she of course became my photographic focus(pun intended). I took this picture of her while she walked away from me down the beach. I like how the sun is blasting out the sky, making the horizon and the ocean seem far ahead of us. It feels like she is walking out into a vast desert to me. It also reminds me of that motivational poster with the footprints in the sand and talking about god carrying someone through the tough points in their life that when I saw it as a kid I thought it was just too convenient an excuse. Anyways, here is a picture of my beautiful wife on a beautiful beach.

Sunrise on Mount Haleakala – Maui

Cassidy and I just took a trip to Maui. For the both of us it was our first time going to Hawaii and the trip was great. It gave us both an opportunity to relax and be lazy, something we don’t normally do on vacation. But, sitting around next to a pool with a Mai Tai in my hand was an amazing way to spend a week. We went swimming almost every day and there was always an amazing view everywhere we went.

The best view had to be at the top of Mount Haleakala. We went up there for the sunrise. Normally I don’t like standing around for 90 minutes in 35 degree weather at 10,000 feet elevation, but once the sun was coming up it was all worth it. Absolutely one of the most breathtaking views I have ever witnessed. I tried to snap as many pictures as I could while we were up there. I took some time and edited these three here.

Animal skin party time for Polaroid Week

I found out over the weekend that it’s Polaroid Week from April 18th-24th this year. Instant film is one of my favorite ways to shoot photos. The results are unique and always satisfying. These shots are from a going away party last year in October for some friends how moved to Hawaii. They had a tiki themed bbq and I thought it was a great opportunity to use my Skins Edition Impossible Film. It seemed to go with the tropical island theme.
We had lots of fun celebrating our friends and their new journey. These are some random silly shots, but they seem to capture the feeling pretty well.
